Best American Short Story of the 20th Century.
The Golden Honeymoon - is a story about a couple, Lucy Frost (also known as Mother) and Charley, who have been married for fifty years and are going on their ‘Golden Honeymoon’ to St. Petersburg, Florida. They spend their time in a resort of some sort, where they run into the Hartsells. This is funny, because Lucy was together with Frank Hartsell fifty years prior and they were supposed to get married, until Charley ‘stole’ Lucy from Frank. They end up spending most of their time with the Hartsells, playing checkers and cards and going to socials together. Along the trip Charley gets really annoyed with the Hartsells, because he keeps beating them in checkers and they keep wanting to play cards. And I believe Mrs. Hartsell doesn’t ever shut up, which annoys Charley as well. In the end of the story, Lucy and Charley get into an argument where Lucy accuses Charley of being jealous and Charley accuses Lucy of regretting not marrying Frank. However, after two days they come to their senses and realise how happy they are together.
